A letter, 1896 December 30, S. R. Erwin to John Edwin Roller concerns plans to publish a book about Confederate soldiers and mentions studying theology under Dr. Robert Dabney. A letter, 1897 October 4, J. E. Roller to "Berkeley" with information for Col. Blackford reviews the names and characters of some of his comrades of G and H companies, 2nd Regiment Engineer troops. There is also a letter, 1897 June 10, Leroy Wesley Cox to J. E. Roller, requesting Roller to telegraph Senator Martin about an "immune battalion."

John E. Roller, a general in the state militia, was a prominent Virginia attorney and businessman. He appears to have been a Republican. George B. Keezell and George N.
